Sona masoori rice is a popular variety of rice in South India. Among the many different varieties of rice, the commonly used types are basmati, sona masoori, red matta (also known as Kerala kothari rice), idli rice, and ponni rice. Sona masoori is a short grained rice which is low in starch and with a distinct taste.
Sona masoori rice is half boiled rice and hence it is easier to cook and not sticky. In South India, this variety of rice is used to prepare bisibele bath, pongal, tomato rice, biriyani, pulao, fried rice. Plain cooked sona masoori rice is consumed with rasam, sambar and many other curries.
Sona masoori rice is semi polished and hence more nutiritious. It is easy to digest and good for weight loss.
